Quick Response Prevents Major Damage in Volusia County Home

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL — Firefighters from DeLand, Orange City, and Volusia County sprang into action Friday afternoon after smoke was spotted billowing from a two-story residence. The emergency call came in at approximately 1:12 p.m., prompting a swift multi-agency response.

Upon arrival, the first unit reported moderate smoke emanating from the structure and immediately declared a working fire. Crews moved quickly, containing the blaze within minutes and preventing it from spreading beyond the garage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Cause Identified: Golf Cart Charging System

Investigators later traced the source of the fire to the charging system of a golf cart parked inside the garage. The incident has prompted renewed warnings from fire officials about the risks associated with charging electric vehicles and equipment in enclosed spaces.

“Always ensure your charging systems are in good working order and positioned away from flammable materials,” said a spokesperson from Volusia County Fire Services. “Even routine charging can pose serious hazards if safety guidelines aren’t followed.”

Community Reminder: Safety First

Officials are urging residents to inspect their charging setups regularly and avoid overloading circuits or using damaged cables. Proper ventilation and distance from combustibles are key to preventing similar incidents.

🔍 Curious Detail: Why Is the Access Point a Triangle?

Some residents have asked why the access point to the garage appeared triangular in shape. Fire officials clarified that this was likely due to the architectural design of the attic vent or gable structure, which can resemble a triangle from certain angles. These features often serve ventilation purposes and are not related to the fire’s origin or spread.
