Bonafide Thrift Store Owner Sounds Alarm Over After-Hours Dumping: “This Is Not a Donation Drop-Off”

EDGEWATER, FL — The owner of Bonafide Thrift Store is raising a red flag after repeated incidents of unauthorized dumping outside the store’s entrance have created a public nuisance, strained relations with neighboring businesses, and triggered warnings from property management.

Despite prominently displayed signage on the storefront window urging patrons not to leave items on the sidewalk after hours, the store continues to be met with piles of discarded goods each morning. These unapproved drop-offs—often left overnight—have led to confusion, frustration, and a growing sense of urgency.

“This appears to my neighboring businesses and to the city like I’m leaving trash out on the sidewalk,” the owner shared in a candid social media post. “It also appears to the homeless like this is a free-for-all—rip it open and scatter stuff everywhere.”

The consequences go beyond mere inconvenience. The cluttered sidewalk has become a magnet for scavenging, resulting in torn bags, strewn clothing, and broken items scattered across the storefront. The mess not only damages the store’s reputation but also disrupts routine maintenance, including pressure washing and overnight cleaning services that keep the property safe and presentable.

The situation has escalated to the point where the store owner is being forced to take defensive action. A surveillance camera will soon be installed to monitor the sidewalk, and any future incidents will be reported directly to the Edgewater Police Department. The stakes are high: continued violations could lead to eviction, despite the owner’s repeated efforts to prevent the problem.

“I’ve already received too many warnings from the property manager,” the post continues. “If I don’t take action, I could be evicted from my store despite my best attempts at stopping this.”

Bonafide Thrift Store has long been a community staple, offering affordable goods and a welcoming atmosphere to locals. But the owner is now pleading with the public to respect donation policies and store hours. What may seem like a generous gesture—leaving items after hours—can quickly become a liability, both legally and operationally.

The store encourages donors to bring items during business hours and to call ahead if unsure about accepted goods or timing. By working together, the community can help preserve the integrity of local businesses and ensure that charitable intentions don’t result in unintended harm.

For updates and donation guidelines, follow Bonafide Thrift Store on social media or visit in person during posted hours.

Thank you for posting this. I really do not want to involve Edgewater police . I just need the overnight dumping to stop. I would greatly appreciate it.
