Semi-Truck Spins Out on Off-Ramp Amid Torrential Rainfall

A semi-truck spun out of control this afternoon while navigating a slick off-ramp leading to International Boulevard, prompting a swift emergency response and temporary traffic disruption. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. during a heavy downpour that left standing water across several roadways in the area.

According to eyewitnesses and responding officers, the truck was rounding the curve of the off-ramp when it hydroplaned, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle skidded across the wet pavement before coming to a halt without striking any other vehicles or infrastructure. The driver remained inside the cab and was unharmed.

Daytona Beach Police arrived on the scene within minutes, securing the area and directing traffic away from the disabled truck. A heavy-duty tow truck was dispatched to assist in removing the semi from the ramp, which had become partially blocked. Crews worked efficiently to clear the vehicle and assess the road conditions to prevent further incidents.

No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed that no citations were issued. The driver was cooperative and had been traveling at a reasonable speed given the weather conditions, according to police statements.

The off-ramp was reopened shortly after the truck was removed, though officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution during inclement weather. Standing water on curved sections of road can dramatically increase the risk of hydroplaning, especially for large commercial vehicles.

This incident serves as a reminder of the hazards posed by Florida’s unpredictable weather and the importance of adjusting driving habits accordingly.
